Chuck Dixon and Joe Bennett Reunite

Jen & Sylvia Soska

GUESS WHO’S BACK??? That’s right! Back by popular demand from the fans – the collaboration of two comic legends, Chuck Dixon and Joe Bennett, THE HORSEMAN RIDES AGAIN!!!

Hi. How are you? Editor Carrow here. The Soska Sisters did a great job on this article, but because it contains spoilers for the previous two Horseman issues, you will find some (most of) of the text hidden. If you want to read the hidden text, please click on the redacted items, and it will show.

I’ll get out of the way of your reading experience now.

Origins of Hector Lee Caballero – The Horseman

We were first introduced Hector Lee Caballero in a one-off, The Horseman: Welcome to Florespark, where we learn that after his pregnant sister, Patty, and his brother-in-law are shot by criminals, leaving Patty wheelchair bound and her husband dead, Hector took his military training and applied it to taking revenge on the people responsible – becoming The Horseman. However, Desher had more criminal activity than he anticipated, which kept Hector very busy cleaning up the streets. Many were brought to justice and even dead – and he’s not even sure if he got the guys who hurt his family.

Relocating to Florespark, Texas

BUT – Horseman hit the wrong people, and now there is a very personal hit on his head, which forced him to relocate his family to the other side of the country. A place called Florespark, Texas. And this new home has everything – a Green Mart, an ice cream parlor, a comic shop, and scum that needs to be removed from the streets.

A New Threat: Crime Boss Tuna Calhoun

HOWEVER, Horse isn’t the only force of good working to end crime, and while taking out a drug trafficking ring, he takes on crime boss, Tuna Calhoun, which almost costs him his life and his family. When the Alphacore steps in, he’s left with one message – hang up the suit & never be the Horseman again.

The Horseman #1 – Hector’s Struggle

In The Horseman #1, we see Hector trying desperately to distract himself. He gets a normal job at the Uni Packet plant, stocking trucks. He goes to therapy and really tries to find an outlet for what the Horseman used to fill, but it’s hard to curb those killer instincts that are now such a part of him. He enjoyed his time with his unit, the Four Horsemen, and now he rides alone.

The Billboard That Changes Everything

A billboard asking ARE YOU THE HORSEMAN? changes everything for him. Out of boredom and curiosity, he reaches out to the number and sets up a meeting with his biggest fan, a tech billionaire named Cal Buxton – but Rex to his vigilante acquaintances. You see, Horse’s work did a hell of a lot of good for the city. As a business owner and a person who loves the great city of Florespark, he enjoyed what the Horseman was doing for the community. It was making the streets safer so that businesses and citizens could thrive. Now with endless funding backing him from Cal, will the Horseman get back in the saddle?

A Promise to His Sister – and Keely-Rose’s Tragedy

It’s not just a matter of money; Hector made his sister a promise. She was endangered before, and to risk that or consider lying to her again is something Hector cannot be paid off to do. It isn’t until he goes home to find the police at a neighbor’s home and the worst has happened in their neighborhood, their neighbor’s fifteen-year-old daughter, Keely-Rose, is dead from fentanyl that was laced in the drugs she was using to study. The drug dealers have brought their evil right next door. As he watches his sister’s tears, Hector knows that promise or not – there are bigger things at stake if he doesn’t go after these low lives to ensure that they can never hurt another person again. This is for Keely-Rose and all the kids who don’t deserve to be pulled into the sewage with these monsters.

Partnership with Cal Buxton – Funding the War on Crime

Hector calls Rex, and they make a deal. He funds his operation, and the Horseman will take out the trash. Cal is so connected that he has an IT Brain Trust that finds targets for Horse to hit. Both keep a certain anonymity from one another for deniability reasons. The billionaire doesn’t want to get caught funding the Horseman, and Hector can’t risk his secret identity being revealed – no matter who he is allied with.

The Stable and The Stallion – Upgrades for Battle

Everything gets an upgrade. No longer is Horseman hiding in the apartment over the garage, hoping that his nephew, Danny, or Patty don’t stumble on his double life. He uses one of the many properties that Cal Buxton owns to build his own lair, the Stable. There, he builds up a vehicle that can withstand what he’s going to be throwing himself into while giving it firepower of its own. He calls it The Stallion. Those days that felt like Christmas when he was overseas killing enemies with the Four Horsemen, they are back!

The Horseman is Back – Stronger Than Ever

THE HORSEMAN IS BACK!!! And no criminals are safe. Powered up and financed to the max with intel telling him where to hit before the police or super cops have any idea – Hector’s vigilante street justice is to the max like never before!
