One man. One trail. One promise.
Capitan Mountains, New Mexico, several decades ago. They call him Crotalus — the rattlesnake. He’s Navajo. He’s a gunfighter. And he lays in the sun until something disturbs him.
A grieving mother named Dyani has been disturbed. The Alvarado gang — Mexican desperadoes who ride into Navajo country without fear — have taken her daughter Lomasi from a mission school. The military won’t act. There are no warriors left to send. So Dyani comes to the only man who might be willing.
Crotalus doesn’t want money. He has his own reasons. And by the time he’s done, the Alvarado gang is going to learn what happens when you step on a rattlesnake.
