Comics For Younger Audiences

Choosing Content for Young Eyes

Sheepsidian

A Rippaverse Perspective

A common phrase I see in chats and hear in discussions: “I have a youngster, and I would like to get him into comics.”

It’s a comment that pops up more often than you’d think. One thing we at The Rippaverse ALWAYS keep in mind is that the customer is king. This topic will always remain central to the Rippaverse mission. We make a concerted effort to release stories that appeal to as many people as possible within our specific genres—from the street-level action of Salvages and the Horseman to the high-flying adventures of Yaira.

Age-Appropriate Stories in the Rippaverse

Each book released so far has gradually “kicked up” the content rating. For instance:

  • Goodyng: The Polymath may have the lightest theme in terms of age-appropriateness.
  • On the other hand, you can probably guess which of our announced or unannounced books push boundaries a bit more.

Our writers, from Eric July to Mike Baron, exercise incredible creativity when crafting these stories. However, they also recognize that not every story needs to cater specifically to adults.

Recommended Reads for Young Teens

Goodyng: The Polymath

  • This book sits comfortably at the bottom of the age-appropriate scale.
  • While it includes a few “blink and you miss it” dark moments, its themes are complex and well-suited for young teens.

Other Titles

  • Isom’s Story: Grittier, action-driven, and direct.
  • Alphacore: Focused on darker themes of super crime.

As of now, books like Zalen haven’t been released, so I can’t yet comment on their specific themes. However, you can get a glimpse of the adventures they promise by checking out their trailers on the Rippaverse YouTube channel.

Kids Can Handle Complexity

It’s important to note that stories geared toward children are not only for kids.
Children are capable of:

  • Understanding morality.
  • Grasping lessons from stories.

This means children’s stories don’t have to be simplified or “dumbed down.” Even if their introduction to The Rippaverse comes through Isom #1, they can absorb powerful lessons, such as:

  • The importance of family from Altona.
  • Perseverance from Avery.

Children are more capable than we often give them credit for—but it’s still important to ensure they’re engaging with the right material.

RippaSend’s Offerings for Young Readers

While I can’t confirm upcoming Rippaverse stories specifically for early readers, RippaSend has fantastic offerings:

Achromatic Chronicles: Blue & Green

  • Written by Jay David, this book is perfect for introducing kids to comics.
  • The story follows Jon and Fortuna, two children from a colorless world, as they embark on a thrilling adventure with pirates, kingdoms, and more.
  • You can pick up both books in the campaign!

Looking Ahead: The Future of the Rippaverse

The Rippaverse is still in its infancy, but there’s so much more to come! Fans can expect:

  • More books with age-appropriate storytelling.
  • Potential animations and other exciting developments.

We fully understand the importance of creating stories that resonate with readers of all ages. We want people to confidently say, “Yes, that’s something my kid can read,” when recommending our titles to their friends and family.

Thank you for supporting The Rippaverse, and stay tuned for what’s next!
