Thanks to all of you wonderful people who picked up Bloodruth #1 and loved the story and artwork–the Blood Witch is back in Bloodruth #2!!!
Yes, that’s right, ladies & gentlemen, Sydnee Bloodruth has taken up residence in Florespark, Texas, as some unseen force has drawn her here.
Her first appearance in Isom #2 had her being recommended as an ally by Cato Goodyng for Isom as he came face to face with the Hellians that took up residence in the Saddleback Mountains and kidnapped Samford Williard.
Mysterious Hellians known as Devlings seemed to be broken down into ranks with demonic fighters, mages, and even a Devling King. Sydnee teamed up with Isom to save Samford, who was found alive with strange markings on his body. Even Goodyng’s tests as to what the markings are were inclusive. And as suddenly as the Hellians appeared, they were gone.
Bloodruth #1 saw the backstory of Sydnee coming to reside in the castle she lives in, located outside of Florespark. After losing a fight with a devil, one who could very easily be the first vampire, Silk, and paying the price with her family’s lives, Sydnee found herself as the sole member left who could still fight the forces of darkness, as is her duty.
Something evil drew her to Florespark, Texas, where she instantly encounters Goodyng, who has been expecting her. Or rather, her father, whom she has been messaging for assistance.
There is a supernatural occurrence with the appearance of a haunted castle. Goodyng has been hired to clear the castle of a powerful undesirable by none other than Michael Copper and Lilian Ronashi, who bought the property to take up residency.
The magic within the castle debilitates anything technical that Goodyng brings within its walls, so he needs a Bloodruth’s help.
Inside the castle, Sydnee faces off against not one, but three greater demons – Choke, Deer Tick, and Fae – who are all serving a devil who goes by the name of Morning Star.
They were summoned by the Master Therion, the all-powerful magician, Edward Alexander Crowlee, who has now had his castle taken over. She finds the magician mutilated and beaten, but still alive!
With all of her skills, magic, and cunning, she is barely able to defeat them all and send the devil back to hell. She was promised anything that Michael & Lilian own as payment, so she takes the castle, which comes with Crowlee, who is cursed to remain trapped in his home.
But WHERE can Sydnee go NEXT??? WHAT is ahead for the Blood Witch???
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
As you could tell from the first Bloodruth starting with the story of Cain and Abel, the world of Bloodruth is deeply intertwined with faith, demons, God, and the devil – there are deeply spiritual themes alongside an exploration of magick and the occult.
This is also a deeply personal next chapter of Bloodruth as we delve deeper into these themes and the challenges set up for Sydnee in her first book.
NO SPOILERS, but those of you who have read Isom #2, Isom #3, and Bloodruth #1 probably have a few pretty darn good guesses as to what is weighing on Sydnee’s heart and soul at the moment, and what is driving her forward.
Family and its importance are the lifeblood of this series, and with the state that Sydnee’s family has been put in, there is a lot ahead of her if she hopes to restore what’s been lost.
The creative team of Bloodruth is a collaboration between us, the Soska Sisters, Michael Montenat (MON-TEN-AY), who is the fan art winner & GOODNESS ME – his artwork brings Sydnee and her world TO LIFE, and colorist Brett R Smith.
This is a series that means a lot to the team; we put a lot of heart, soul, and love into every page.
This one is dedicated to the woman who stepped up to be Michael’s mother after his mother passed away, Marilyn. A woman of great faith, character, and strength.
Marilyn was given a limited amount of time to live during the creation of this new chapter of Bloodruth and passed while the book was being completed. She is immortalized within the pages and in the dedication.
I cannot imagine the heartache of receiving such devastating news and the catharsis of being able to express the love of such a great woman through the art that you are creating. When you read the story and see the pages, it’s otherworldly how appropriate a story this was to honor Marilyn.
Losing our loved ones is something we must all experience. Death is a path we all must take. With faith, love, and loved ones, this journey is lighter when we have family, friends, and God to lean on.
Some endure alone. Life in this world is precious. We don’t have our human lives forever. What matters is what we do with the time we have while we’re here, the lives we impact, and what remains after we are gone.
